What? I Can View Two Web Pages Side-By-Side On My iPad?
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to see two Safari web pages side-by-side?
This would be handy when comparing to web sites for product pricing (ex: buying an iPad case on Amazon vs Walmart) or for comparing and contrasting features of two automobiles you are considering purchasing. Or, maybe when researching information for a business or home project and you have two open Safari tabs with related sources.
Starting in iOS 10, it is now possible to view two Safari windows side-by-side on the iPad using a feature called Safari Split View. It’s similar to the standard Split View between separate apps, but instead of two apps, you see and interact with two active web pages.
How To See Activate Split View in Safari on Your iPad
To view two pages side-by-side in Safari by opening a link:
- Touch and hold a link in one page.
- Then tap Open in Split View.
To view two pages side-by-side in Safari by opening a blank page:
- Touch and hold the Tab button in the upper-right corner (looks like two layered squares).
- Then tap Open Split View.
To view two pages side-by-side in Safari by moving a tab to the left or right of an open Safari window:
- This requires at least two open tabs in Safari.
- Drag a tab from the tab bar to the left or right edge of an open web page.
- You’ll notice the existing web page will make room in Split View for the 2nd web page.
To close Split View and resume single web page view:
- Tab the “X” in either opened tab
- Or, touch and hold the Tab button (looks like two layered squares) and choose Close This Tab or Merge Tabs.
There you go. I hope you learned something new today. If you did, pat yourself on the back, say “Yippee”, and go show off to your family and friends. You deserve it!
