Apple Product Announcements – New iPhone, iPad, Watch, And More


Apple held its highly anticipated Fall Media Event today, which featured product updates for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more.
I’m not going to cover all the details from today’s event, but I will highlight the important items you should know. Moving forward, I will spend time in future editions breaking down the Apple’s hardware, software, and accessory information released today.

Apple announced 3 new iPhones today – iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 11 is featured as the low-budget release and the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max were introduced as “phones for the Pro’s”.
Let’s start with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and break them down. Each iPhone features edge-to-edge displays (barely a bezel), with the iPhone 11 Pro coming in at the now-familiar 5.8 inches, while the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s display is 6.5 inches (Apple’s biggest iPhone screen.)

- Two sizes: 5.8-inch (458 ppi) and 6.5-inch (458 ppi), with OLED HDR screen (Super XDR Retina displays.)
- Colors: Midnight Green, silver, space gray, and gold finishes.
- New screen glass most durable ever.
- Triple back cameras: 12MP Ultra Wide, Wide, and Telephoto cameras with Night mode (better photos in low lighting).
- Front-facing cameras: TrueDepth camera with 4k video recording up to 60 fps
- Each phone will continue to support Face ID (which Apple states will be faster and provide more angles than its predecessors.)
- A13 Bionic chip with third-generation Neural Engine:
- Supports more than 5 trillion operations per second (WOW!)
- Fastest CPU and GPU ever in a smart phone by 40%.
- Includes an amazing 8.5 billion transistors.
- Water-resistance rating (4 meters depth; up to 30 minutes in water.)
- Battery life: iPhone 11 Pro Max lasts up to 5 hours longer than iPhone XS Max. iPhone 11 Pro lasts up to 4 hours longer than iPhone XS.
- New fast charger that should give the Pro series a 50% charge in just half an hour.
- Lightning port.
- 3D haptic pressure-sensitive screen.

- QuickTake (tap and hold shutter button to switch from still to video.)

- Battery life claim: Lasts up to 1 hour longer than iPhone XR.
- Water resistant to a depth of 2 meters for up to 30 minutes.

Apple now has a comparison of the new iPhone models and all currently supported models (look for the “see all models” link at the top of the page.)
**Apple will continue its new iPhone upgrade program, which allows users to pay as little as $35.33 per month directly to Apple for an unlocked iPhone. Then, a year later, you can trade in your iPhone and upgrade to a new model, continuing the same monthly payments as before.

Apple iPad Generation 7
Apple introduces a new version of its popular lower-end iPad 10.2-inch, featuring a larger screen and support for the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.

- A10 Fusion Chip (2x faster than the top selling PC.)

Apple Watch Series 5

Apple introduced Apple Watch Series 5, the next generation of the #1 best-selling smart watch. Apple Watch Series 5 is packed with improved fitness and health capabilities, plus Always-On mode which allows you to sneak glances at your watch and see information without having to explicitly raise your wrist.
Here is a quick recap:
- Always-On Retina Display (you will always see your watch face.)
- Comes in Aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, or ceramic.
- Offers a built-in compass that allows you to see things like the direction you’re facing in the Maps app, like on the iPhone. There’s also a new Compass app, which offers information like your longitude, latitude, and altitude.
- The new Noise app alerts you when decibels rise to levels that can impact your hearing
- Apple Watch Series 5 will offer the same 18-hour, all-day battery life.
- Every cellular model of the Apple Watch Series 5 also has international emergency calling that is not reliant on an iPhone.
- Get a quick read on your heart rate, or check your heart rhythm with the ECG app.
- Featuring an updated heart sensor:
- low heart rate sensor or detector
- heart rhythm sensor
- catches AFib and notifies you
- Apple Watch Series 5 will run Apple’s new WatchOS 6 operating system.
- available in cellular and non-cellular versions, both of which still come with built-in GPS.

Pricing is as follows:
- The Apple Watch Series 5 is now available for pre-order.
- Sales set to begin in-store on September 20.
- The device costs $400 for the GPS model and $500 for the cellular model.
- Apple also announced that it was dropping the price of the Apple Watch Series 3 to just $200.
Apple Arcade and Apple TV+
Apple shed more light on the Apple Arcade service. The gaming subscription service will be released on September 19 and cost just $4.99 a month for a family subscription.
Apple TV + is the new ad-free video-streaming service from Apple (all original content.) The service will be available from November 1 2019, and will cost $4.99 per month and it can be shared between up to six different family members at no extra cost. Plus, when you buy an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple TV, you’ll get one year’s subscription free.
Additional viewing content will be released on a monthly basis.
Other Noteworthy Tidbits
- iOS 13 will be available to download on September 19th.
- iPad OS will be available to download on September 30.
- There was no mention of an iPad Pro or iPad Mini update.
- New iPhones will ship with Earbuds with Lightning Connector.
- All new Apple device purchases include 1 year free subscription to AppleTV +.
- No mention of new Macs.
- No mention of AppleTV hardware.
- No mention of HomePod.
- MacOS Catalina will be released on October.
