Apple’s Media Event, What You Should Know…
Apple held its highly anticipated media event today, which featured product updates for the iPhone, Apple Earbuds, and Apple Watch.
Zaxo The New iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
This is a new-model release and both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are packed with plenty of new features. Here is a quick recap:
- Both models will keep the same size as their predecessors. The iPhone 7 – 4.7″ display and the 7 Plus – 5.5″ display (detailed specs).
- New casing is Splash, Water, and Dust Resistant.
- Colors – new ‘Jet Black’, new ‘Black’, Gold, Silver, Rose Gold.
- Battery life – iPhone 7 = up to 14 hours on WIFI (12 on cell), iPhone 7 Plus = up to 15 hours on WIFI (13 on cell).
- Storage size offerings have been doubled (see below).
- Each phone runs on the new A10 four-core chip, which improves overall CPU performance by up to 40% (120 x’s faster than the original iPhone) and graphics performance 50%.
- Cellular LTE speeds are 3x’ faster than iPhone 6.
- Both new iPhones sport a retina HD display which is brighter (25% more than iPhone 6s) and has more colors than ever before. Supports 3D Touch.
- Both new iPhones have added a two-speaker stereo audio system.
- iPhone 7 has an entirely new back and front cameras…featuring:
- 12MP camera
- Optical image stabilization
- 7MP FaceTime HD camera
- Quad-LED True Tone flash
- iPhone 7 Plus has two entirely new back cameras that amazingly shoot as one…featuring:
- one wide angle lens / one telephoto lens
- replaces a zoom lens with new zoom feature
- camera app has a new button (1x or 2x button on screen)
- can drag new on-screen button to go from 1x to 10x zoom
- Offers a new shallow depth of field technology
- creates a depth map (looks like the subject is in 3D)
- blurs background image
- Comes with new Apple Earbuds that connect via the lightning port replacing the legacy 3.5mm headphone jack port.
- Comes with a lightning port adapter for older analog earbuds.
- Runs iOS 10.
- Pre-order begins at 12:01 a.m. PDT on Friday, September 9th.
- Shipping begins September 16th.

Then, a year later, you can trade in your iPhone and upgrade to a new model, continuing the same monthly payments as before.
New Wireless Air Pods
Apple has announced Apple also announced the AirPods, a new set of smart wireless earbuds which will be available separately. Here is a quick recap:
- After a simple one-tap setup, AirPods are automatically on and always connected. Using them is just as easy. They can sense when they’re in your ears and pause when you take them out.
- All your Apple devices ( iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac).
- AirPods deliver 5 hours of listening time on one charge.
- Comes with a charging case that holds multiple additional charges for more than 24 hours of listening time.
- Just 15 minutes in the case gives you 3 hours of listening time.
- To check the battery, hold the AirPods next to your iPhone or ask Siri “How’s the battery on my AirPods?”.
- Available in Late October.

Apple Watch Series 2
Apple introduced Apple Watch Series 2, the next generation of the the popular smartwatch. Apple Watch Series 2 is packed with improved fitness and health capabilities. Here is a quick recap:
- See full specs
- Waterproof or swim proof (Water resistant 50 meters depth — built-in speaker rejects water).
- Dual core process (50% faster).
- Faster graphic processor.
- 2nd Gen display that is more than 2x’s brighter than previous generation.
- Now has built-in GPS (instant connection) that provides route maps and speeds, and doesn’t require a cell connection.
- Apple Watch Series 2 will be available in gold, rose gold, silver or space gray aluminum, silver or space black stainless steel cases paired with a wide variety of bands.
- New Breathe app (reminds you to do a deep breathing exercise).
- SOS – emergency contacts and emergency services alerted.
- Pokemon Go is coming to the Watch — combining Pokemon Go with fitness tracking.

Alongside the Apple Watch Series 2 with built-in GPS, a special Nike+ edition of the Apple Watch was announced by Apple. Here is a quick recap:
- Like all Apple Watch Series 2 models, Apple Watch Nike+ has built-in GPS to track your pace, distance, and route — even if you don’t have your iPhone with you.
- Apple Watch Nike+ is rated water resistant 50 meters, so you can even take a post-run dip in the pool.
- Exclusive Nike watch faces.
- Receive reminders triggered by your friends’ shared activity, the current weather, or your own history, so you’ll always have a reason to run.
- The Nike+ Run Club app provides you just what you need to make your running better than ever.

Other Noteworthy Tidbits
iOS 10 will be available to download on September 13th (see my iOS 10 Preview edition).
- Apple’s iWorks apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) now offers public or private real-time collaboration on Mac, iPad, iPhone and web.
- Nintendo’s Mario is coming exclusively to the app store! A new ‘Super Mario Run’ app will be available for the 2016 Holidays.
- macOS Sierra will be released on September 20th.
